FOR A WATERTIGHT CLOSURE TO MAINTAIN INTEGRITY, ITS GASKET MUST BE IN GOOD SHAPE.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN INSPECTING A GASKET
-
THE GASKET MUST BE SOFT AND PLIABLE AND HAVE NO CRACKS.
-
THERE SHOULD BE NO PAINT, RUST OR OTHER FOREIGN MATTER ON THE GASKET.
-
ON DOORS, THE GASKET JOINT SHOULD BE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE CLOSURE.
-
THERE SHOULD BE NO GAPS IN THE GASKET JOINT. IF SHRINKAGE HAS CAUSED SEPARATION, REPLACE THE ENTIRE GASKET. DO NOT SPLICE A GASKET.
-
GASKETS DEVELOP PERMANENT SETS OR GROOVES OVER TIME. IF THE GROOVE IS MORE THAN 1/8" DEEP, REPLACE THE WHOLE GASKET. DO NOT REPLACE PART OF A GASKET.
